SERVPRO Mitigates and Restores Water Damage

The community is larger than the 45,000 residents, as Morgan Hill is directly connected to Silicon Valley and has been the birthplace of many tech startups. Facilities and offices and the thousands of residences throughout the city must be reached quickly after water disasters. Water and moisture threats spread fast in a household or structure and can result from several types of disasters like:

  • Plumbing damage
  • Leaks
  • Appliance issues
  • Flooding
  • Accidents

Our professionals urgently respond to Morgan Hill water damage. A single loss event could be devastating and expensive with many luxury homes and sprawling commercial properties within the municipal limits. Our SERVPRO Green Fleet is ready to move at the first notice of loss, stocked with air movers, dehumidifiers, extraction tools, and other drying equipment.

The Timeline to Restore a Home

The water restoration process consists of hundreds of drying decisions and fast actions taken in the earliest stages. Because permanent damage can result from exposures over 24 to 48 hours, our SERVPRO team must choose the most efficient strategies to manage threatening scenarios and mitigate loss. Mitigation happens through several emergency services:

  • Water Removal – Rapid extraction techniques to remove standing water from surfaces and trapped in structural cavities.
  • Controlled Demolition – Contractors remove compromised structures and discard damaged and sagging materials.
  • Content Relocation – A process of removing at-risk personal belongings and contents to a safer house location.
  • Plumbing Repairs – Restoring water service is a needed action and a priority, but repairs also prevent continued damage to the structure.

The Importance of Air Movers

Between axial and centrifugal units, air movers play a substantial role in evaporating trapped moisture in building materials and moist conditions after water damage. These machines are often placed with a heavy frequency, linking them together in a process known as daisy-chaining to conserve available outlets on portable power sources. The more effective air movers are, the more connected services like dehumidification are needed to regulate growing moisture content.

Regulating Moisture Content

While wet surfaces and building materials can be challenging, our professionals must also contend with saturated environments. We carefully monitor the relative humidity percentage and humidity ratios of the impacted rooms to adequately place dehumidification equipment like desiccants and low-grain refrigerant models throughout the structure to help.

Water Damage Repairs

Not only must our professionals work fast to provide the needed restoration and recovery for properties contending with water damage, but there are often repairs and reconstruction needs of the property as well. Considering that many of the ruinous situations homes face result from broken plumbing or damaged fixtures, our general contractor license ensures that the right experienced team members are present for all needed build-back services.

Preventing Mold Damage

Persistent moisture can be a condition that ultimately facilitates mold growth and microbial damage. We must consider this possibility as a certainty with exposed surfaces to keep emergencies from becoming a more costly and involved restoration and remediation need. Not only does this mean applying antimicrobial inhibitors on surfaces exposed and at the greatest risk, but it also means verifying the progress and success of drying processes with equipment like:

  • Thermal imagery
  • Moisture sensors
  • Probing moisture detectors
  • Hygrometers

Considering the destructive capacities of Morgan Hill water damage events, professionals must respond fast to prevent irreparable harm. We are leading WRT-Certified technicians for mitigation and restoration after emergencies. Give our SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy team a call as soon as possible at (408) 500-0657.

For Water Mitigation in Morgan Hill, Call SERVPRO

Water damage in any home is the cause of much distress to its residents and needs to be repaired as soon as possible. The urgency to restore the home to its former state cannot be contradicted because dearly valued household items could be only part of the losses incurred.

Such water damage can also affect walls, floors, and paint, creating mold and turning the home into an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Water mitigation in Morgan Hill calls for removing residual water from the home, followed by a drying process to fully restore the property. The process of restoring the home should begin immediately to prevent secondary damage like mold infestation.

The steps that our SERVPRO team can take in the water damage mitigation process include:

  • Stopping the flow of water
  • Extracting the water
  • Drying and disinfecting the home
  • Restoring the building

Some signs of water damage are rotting floors and ceilings, peeling paint, discolored areas, moldiness, and the smell of dampness. Removing water from the affected home ensures no more water can cause visible or hidden damage. Water extraction is much more efficient than dehumidification. The more water our SERVPRO team removes using extraction equipment the less time we spend drying and dehumidifying a home with air movers and dehumidifiers

Elevated moisture can also lead to water damage. Although it seems easy to detect the presence of water, using special tools like moisture meters and moisture sensors helps our SERVPRO restorers ensure that all the water is dried out.

Air in a water-damaged home is usually humid and damp, hampering evaporation. Our SERVPRO technicians use air movers to blow out damp air and bring in warm dry air to speed up the drying process. We change the location of air movers during the process to promote even and proper drying of surfaces.

Drying your property after water damage significantly limits the possible destruction. Don’t hesitate to contact SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy at (408) 500-0657 for repairs. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

water leaking from pipe Did you experience a burst pipe? SERVPRO is your one-stop-shop for water damage restoration.

SERVPRO Perform Water Restoration in Gilroy Efficiently

As a homeowner, water damage is among the most challenging problems you can encounter, whether from the bursting of old plumbing pipes, broken appliances, or another similar mishap. Letting the water sit in your house for a long time can worsen the situation, which is why it is good to contact a reputable water restoration company as soon as possible.

SERVPRO is ready to perform water restoration in your Gilroy residence at any time of the day or week. We have well-trained and certified technicians, state-of-the-art equipment, and deep knowledge and experience in the remediation of any issues concerning water intrusion. The situation of the affected house dictates the process we follow most of the time, but it follows the framework shown below:

Standing water is most likely to cause the growth and spread of mold, which is why at SERVPRO, we use our electric submersible pumps and wet-dry vacuums to extract the water to make the assessment easier. This gives us a clear picture, helping us decide what needs to be removed.

Many items and structures absorb water. Our SERVPRO technicians can use air movers to improve evaporation at the surface level and expedite drying. We can use dehumidifiers to eliminate moisture from the air after it has evaporated. Air movers and dehumidifiers must work together for a building to dry effectively.

To confirm that the moisture levels have returned to their levels under normal conditions, we can use non-penetrative moisture meters to determine the moisture levels of the internal environment and the affected materials. We proceed to the next step if our readings are favorable.

We cannot ensure your safety without properly sterilizing all the affected surfaces and items. Our SERVPRO team can use alcohol disinfectants and germicides that kill about 99% of all microorganisms left on the outer areas, making the house safe for you to inhabit.

Don’t let your house go to ruin after water damage. Contact SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy at (408) 500-0657 for efficient and cost-effective water restoration services. We seek to make water damage seem “Like it never even happened.”

In-Place Carpet Drying Is Only Appropriate in Morgan Hill for Certain Situations

In recent years, many advancements have been made in Morgan Hill’s water damage remediation industry. One of these improvements has been the development of in-place carpet drying techniques. However, while these new methods are quite innovative and effective, they are not appropriate for all drying situations and environments.

The Morgan Hill water damage restoration specialists at SERVPRO understand that in-place carpet drying is only beneficial if home interior conditions are right. Otherwise, they know that these remediation techniques could potentially slow drying or even cause additional damage over the long term. The specific scenarios during which in-place carpet drying should not be attempted are when:

  • Carpet has been in contact with water for more than three full days, or signs of contaminants like mold are present
  • Impacted rooms are filled with expensive or sensitive items like electronics, high-end artwork, valuable books, or irreplaceable paperwork
  • The carpet padding is composed of plant/animal fibers or has a water-trapping, non-porous layer
  • Subflooring consists of a vapor barrier, hardwood or laminated floors, or has multiple layers
  • Subfloors appear to have suffered structural damage

In addition to SERVPRO’s extensive carpet restoration expertise, we are also experienced in performing a wide range of emergency water damage services like complete water clean-up jobs, basement flooding remediation, and water damage repairs.

So, regardless of the type or severity of your home’s water damage restoration needs, rest assured that quality help is available nearby. Your friendly neighbors at SERVPRO of Morgan Hill/Gilroy are always here and ready to assist you whenever you need us. Contact our highly-skilled technicians anytime at (408) 500-0657 for fast and effective assistance.

Unique Water Restoration Techniques Are Available in Gilroy

Leaking appliances cause water damage SERVPRO IICRC certified technicians have the training and experience needed for the damage your home has. We are here to help.

In-Place Water Restoration of Carpeting in Gilroy Requires a Specialized Process

Over time, a specialized process has been developed by Gilroy remediators to swiftly and effectively complete in-place carpet drying. These procedures require highly-trained technicians, as well as specially designed equipment, to ensure their success. If unsuccessful, such restoration efforts could promote further structural and content damage.

One water restoration firm in Gilroy, SERVPRO, has nearly perfected this technique for drying carpets without having to roll them back or remove their padding. It has even become one of our signature water damage remediation methods that often enables us to clean up the effects of ceiling leaks, burst pipes, and basement flooding more quickly than other local services. The requisite conditions for in-place carpet drying are as follows:

  • A truck-mounted extractor needs to be used, first with a standard wand to keep water from migrating and then with a weighted extraction tool
  • The extraction process must be patterned, so a room’s central area is worked on first, before workers advance to its perimeter, and furniture is then moved to this dried area
  • Workers have to extract one ten square foot segment at a time, continually moving furniture to a dry area, until a room is completely dried if water migration is an issue
  • Carpet padding has to be continually inspected to see if water can be squeezed from it; as long as water comes out, water removal efforts have to continue
  • Every 300 square feet of carpet requires about an hour of extraction
  • The right ratio of air movers-to-dehumidifiers needs to be calculated; generally, use about one air mover for every fifty to sixty square feet

So, with all of this in mind, remember that SERVPRO of Morgan Hill/Gilroy is always here for you. Contact us at (408) 500-0657 whenever you need water restoration assistance.

Can the Disruption of Water Restoration Efforts Be Minimized at My Morgan Hill Home?

1/29/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO state of the art sign Water damage restoration is no DIY project. SERVPRO uses the latest technology and equipment for every size disaster.

Yes, One Way This Is Achieved in Morgan Hill Is Through In-Place Drying Techniques.

When your Morgan Hill residence suffers a water-related event, it can be devastating and cause massive disruptions to your daily life. This, however, doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. There are methods, like in-place carpet drying measures, which make cleanup and restoration efforts much easier.

The beauty of hiring a supremely experienced firm like SERVPRO is benefiting from its innovative, trouble-saving water restoration techniques in Morgan Hill. In doing so, homeowners can usually reduce the disruption of water removal services and water damage repairs, as well as the time it takes to remediate the overall effects of burst pipes, basement flooding, and ceiling leaks. One of the many ways SERVPRO does this is through in-place carpet drying methods.

In-place carpet drying generally involves:

  • Stopping water migration with a regular wand and truck-mounted extractor and then using a weighted extraction tool to finish the job
  • First extracting water from the center carpeting of a room, then moving furnishings to the room’s water-extracted center, and finally removing moisture from the perimeter flooring
  • Periodically rolling up and squeezing corners of the carpet to determine when water removal efforts are completed; extractions usually take an hour for each 300 square feet
  • Calculating the number of dehumidifiers necessary for complete drying and the use of an air mover for every 50 or 60 square feet of the impacted area

By taking these steps, homeowners suffer fewer disruptions because furnishings don’t have to be moved out of impacted rooms. Also, carpet generally experiences less damage since seams aren’t cut, and carpet reinstallation isn’t necessary.

So, if you ever need water restoration work done, call your friends at SERVPRO of Morgan Hill/Gilroy. We are always ready for your call at (408) 500-0657.

SERVPRO Helps Gilroy Residents with Water Restoration of Their Properties

warped wooden floorboards from water damage When your property is affected by water damage, time is of the essence. Contact SERVPRO to assess the situation and formulate a restoration plan.

SERVPRO’s fast and efficient water restoration can save Gilroy homes from extensive damage

Water damage can leave a lasting impact on your property by compromising the structural integrity of the building materials. Water restoration of your Gilroy home needs to happen fast to prevent such extensive damage. Hiring professionals like SERVPRO can ensure that the situation is brought under control as quickly as possible.

SERVPRO techs employ several drying techniques during the water restoration of your Gilroy home. The goal is to eliminate as much moisture from the surfaces as possible quickly. As water interacts differently with different materials, the restorability of such materials after water damage can vary.

How do SERVPRO techs determine the restorability of hardwood flooring during water damage repairs of your Gilroy home?

Hardwood floors of most homes in Gilroy are made from maple, birch, oak, or pecan. To determine the restorability of such floorings, the SERVPRO IICRC-certified restorers use a non-penetrating moisture meter to detect the amount of moisture. The two most common types of issues with hardwood floorings after water damage are-

  • Cupping: occurs when moisture is absorbed into the edges of the planks, resulting in the wood bowing into a concave shape.
  • Crowning: occurs if the hardwood planks absorb moisture from the bottom resulting in the wood bowing into a convex shape.
  • Warping and buckling: If there is no room for the planks to expand, the wood can warp and buckle at the joints. The extent of warping or buckling depends on the amount of moisture absorbed and the type of wood.

The drying goal set by SERVPRO restores to reverse this visible damage to the hardwood floor. While cupping and crowning can be reversed, warping and buckling are permanent, necessitating replacing the floors.

Why Is Moisture Monitoring Vital for Water Restoration in Morgan Hill Homes?

10/20/2021 (Permalink)

water damaged drywall; water marks on wall around pipe Water damage can be visible or hidden. We have the tools to locate moisture pockets in your home.

Our Professionals Use Several Tools to Track Drying Progress in Morgan Hill Properties

Professionals on our team must use a wealth of equipment to overcome water damage incidents and provide the most efficient solutions to recover your home after an emergency. Our fast response and use of moisture detection devices can help with the placement of drying tools.

What Are Monitoring Devices?

We have several advanced pieces of equipment designed exclusively to make water damage restoration in Morgan Hill homes more efficient. We can thoroughly dry after emergencies by tracking water damage on the surface and beyond the visible layer of building materials.

Tracking the Movement of Moisture

Moisture migration is difficult to follow, but failure to find hidden water and moisture in building materials can cause more significant harm. Surface meters and probing moisture detectors can both show how far the water has penetrated materials.

Identify Hidden Pockets of Water

Using thermal cameras with infrared technology equipment allows our professionals to see where hidden caches of water might be. Damp areas that are unresolved can lead to threatening situations like mold development or structural deterioration. We can track the presence of these water-damaged areas in:

  • Wall systems
  • Ceiling systems
  • Subflooring

Learn When Acceptable Moisture Content Gets Reached

Another one of the advantages of using moisture detection meters is determining the relative humidity levels and moisture content of the specific materials we are looking to restore. For wood flooring, for example, overdrying can be a real possibility. We track the progress of drying until we reach the acceptable range for moisture content.

When it comes to restoring homes and businesses after water damage, we must rely on several pieces of technology in our inventory to track the movement of moisture and provide accurate information about the progress of drying. Our SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy team is ready to help with the restoration your home needs when you call (408) 500-0657.

Why do SERVPRO Techs Set up Drying Zones in Your Morgan Hill Home During Water Cleanup?

A drying zone is an area within the water-damaged building where SERVPRO IICRC-certified technicians control humidity, temperature, and airflow to increase the rate of evaporation. It is created by sealing off openings between the affected and unaffected areas by erecting plastic sheet barriers. The drying zones serve two purposes-

  • Help to focus the dry air and air movement on wet structure and materials
  • Provide a location for drying the contents. Contents that are placed in the drying zone can simultaneously be dried with the structure.

Morgan Hill Residents Rely on SERVPRO for Water Mitigation of Their Homes

Water mitigation of your Morgan Hill property is a job for the professionals. During the mitigation services, SERVPRO technicians focus on extracting the water as soon as possible and taking steps to prevent the water from inflicting further damage to the structure and its contents.

Dealing with the excess moisture is one of the most important aspects of water mitigation of your Morgan Hill home. The lingering moisture in the air can cause secondary structural damage and even mold. SERVPRO technicians use various dehumidification methods to restore the moisture content of the structure to preloss conditions during water damage repairs. In case of category 2 or category 3 damages involving contaminants, SERVPRO techs take additional steps to prevent contamination from spreading to an unaffected area.

What Mitigation Steps do SERVPRO Techs Take During Water Cleanup from your Morgan Hill home?

Water mitigation after incidents such as burst pipes, ceiling leaks, or even flooded basements require proper planning and execution involving the following steps-

  • Establishing engineering controls- Contaminants can easily dislodge and spread to unaffected areas if not contained. SERVPRO techs seal off the affected area with 6-mil polyethylene plastic using special tension poles and tape. Even a decontamination chamber is also set up for the removal of debris. Air filtration devices and negative pressure ensure that clean air enters the affected area, but the contaminated air can't go to the unaffected area.
  • Removing bulk material- SERVPRO techs remove any solid waste, silt, and debris to limit the secondary damage. Trash pumps are often used to remove water with suspended waste.
  • Provide humidity control- Technicians use air movers and dehumidifiers to keep humidity under control during the water mitigation process.

Can Clean Water Make a Home Unsanitary?

3/26/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Equipment We have the equipment and training to restore your home to pre-damage condition after water damage strikes.

Early Mitigation for Water Intrusion is Vital. SERVPRO Can Help Maintain a Sanitary Environment in your Gilroy Home.

If the water intrusion is not mitigated early, the intruding water can fester and become unsanitary regardless of the source. SERVPRO technicians aim to minimize this issue by using professional products to help slow or stop bacterias and other microbes in the home.

After extraction, products are used to aid water cleanup in your Gilroy home. These products are often applied to a specific area of the house with a particular outcome hoping to be achieved. Applying products effectively typically relies on using the correct personal protective equipment (PPE), dilution, and dwell time.

  • Dwell time allows chemical products to interact with and eliminate potentially unsanitary particles or organisms in a home environment.
  • Applying chemical products requires the use of chemical goggles, gloves, and, in some cases, respirators to ensure safety.
  • We use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered products in the home environment to ensure standards are met.

Even clean water can deteriorate without early intervention. Contact SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy for water cleanup at (408) 500-0657.

For Residential Water Damage Restoration, Contact SERVPRO

Water damage is a threat to any home. Major problems can start from a dishwasher that spills a full-cycle of water into a kitchen or a small leak under a bathroom sink that goes unnoticed for weeks or even months.

Water damage restoration in Gilroy starts with quick water removal. Our specialists utilize extraction devices that pull water off concrete floors and draw it out of carpets and wood floors without damaging the surface. Next, other team members use moisture detectors to determine where water is trapped behind walls or worked its way beneath wood floors and linoleum. They use small extractors with extended hoses to draw it out for disposal.

To restore floors and walls, specialists place box fans at key points to remove damp air, which lets damp floors and wall panels release more water in the air through evaporation. To further increase this, they use air movers to generate a warm airflow that pushes moisture out of walls and flooring.

Avoid Accidents from Slips and Falls During Water Cleanup

Most of us are so worried about the damage that water leaks are causing to our furniture, floors, and walls that we forget about other potential dangers. Water can spread across hard surface floors such as tile and hardwood very quickly. In our haste to stop the water leak and protect our homes from further damage, many people rush into an area only to have their feet slip out from under them, causing broken bones or even a concussion. There could be electrical hazards as well when leaking water short circuits electrical cords.

Before entering your home or a room to shut off the water tap or clean up water on floors etc., SERVPRO recommends homeowners take the following steps:

Confirm that it is safe to enter the area

Check for electrical hazards

Move carefully to avoid falling on slippery surfaces

Experienced HVAC Technicians Ensure Complete Water Extraction from Ducts for Our Morgan Hill Customers

Many residential property owners in Morgan Hill find that after an event involving water, their home’s air seems damper than normal. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it can also cause additional problems.
    •    Damp systems require more energy, increasing costs and decreasing system lifespans, and
    •    Microbial infestations become more likely.

The source of this water can also create problems, particularly if the water contains pathogens or chemicals. SERVPRO’s technicians have extensive training in mitigating the worst possible damage.

Complete and thorough water extraction from your Morgan Hill dwelling addresses every visibly wet area and enclosed spaces that can trap water. Your HVAC system is one of these areas. While a substantial amount of water can drip away through seams, this remains an insufficient approach. Our HVAC technicians help with removing moisture from a location that can devolve into a rusty, germ-infested mess, capable of causing undesirable health effects for your family.

How do you remove water from ducts?
After we inspect and test the heating system, we often use this built-in feature to elevate the temperature and dry out the ducts. However, we realize that ducts might contain debris. We place filters on the outside of the vents to trap any dust exiting.

Do any measures work for preventing mold or other problems from damp conditions?
If necessary, we can also perform regular cleaning. Antimicrobial agents applied once dry, either before an additional cleaning or without one, greatly diminish the risk of infestations.

Will drying out the HVAC system make the water extraction process take longer?
Part of SERVPRO’s training of their technicians and specialists includes working together as teams and performing more than just one or two functions. Multitasking reduces idle time, dramatically increasing our efficiency. This allows us, in most situations, to refrain from increasing the length of time it takes to fully extract water and dry a home’s structure.

SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy can fix plumbing accidents that wreck your Coyote, CA, or Rucker, CA, residence, and extract the water, leaving everything “Like it never even happened.” Call (408) 500-0657 for professional service in an emergency.
